Verland Lewis (Chub) Peterson 89, of Black River Falls, Passed Away Peacefully, on January 7,
2023.
Chub was born September 25, 1933, to Merlin J. and Etta (Chrisinger) Peterson. He was raised
in Black River Falls and graduated high school in 1951.
On June 25, 1954, Chub married the love of his life, Arlene Collins. Chub always said, “Arlene
was the prettiest girl he ever saw!” To this union, six children were born.
Chub’s Passion was always farming. In 1958, Chub and Arlene purchased the family farm in
Kenyon Valley. Farming wasn’t always easy but with the help of hired men and then the Kids
when they got bigger, Chub and his Family made it work. Then came the grandkids, who
couldn’t wait to get out to the barn and help with the chores, the younger ones helping with the
calves, and the older ones working in the fields. The family was always important to Chub and
spoiling his grandkids and great-grandkids was his favorite thing to do.
Chub also enjoyed playing Euchre and watching sports on T.V. his “Dodgers” were his favorite
team.
Aside from farming, Chub also worked at Midland and Byrns Equipment.
Chub is survived by his children: Scott (Wendy) Peterson, Connie Peterson, Cindy Jessie, Mindy
(Neil) Kubina, Barry (Becky) Peterson; his grandchildren: Laura (Doug) Lindow, Sierra (Tyson)
Burruss, Audrey (Andrew) Pfaffe, Fawn Jessie, Miranda Jessie, Adam (Heather Kitzman) Shaw,
Aaron Shaw, Paige (Mike Hall) Shaw, Ryan Kubina, Kelsey (Josh Loining) Peterson, Jacob
Peterson, Kyle (Samantha Beaulieu) Peterson, Julia (Nate Johnson) Peterson great-
grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Chub is also survived by his siblings Larry
Peterson, Marian Hagen, Lois Ferries, Judy (Ole) Olson, and sister-in-laws Charlotte Peterson,
Marion Collins, and Donna Lee Storandt.
Chub is preceded in death by his wife of nearly 65 years, Arlene, his daughter Peggy, and
grandsons Michael Peterson and Jordan Jessie. His parent’s Merlin and Etta Peterson, in-laws
Roy Collins, Alice and Chet Brushafer, his sister Carol Lambert and his brother Eugene Peterson
and his brother-in-laws Duane Lambert, Kerwood Hagen, Neil Collins, and Earl Storandt.
Pallbearers are Adam, Aaron, Aidan Shaw, Ryan Kubina, Jake, and Kyle Peterson.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023, at Little Norway Lutheran Church, N4755
Gus Rd, Black River Falls, WI from 4-6 pm. Services will be on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at
11 am with Reverend Calvin Thoreson officiating. Interment will follow at Little Norway
Cemetery.
