March is Women’s History Month and five area women were honored with Jackson County Women in History Awards Wednesday. Sheriff Duane Waldera emceed the 30th Annual Recognition Event, held in Jackson County Interfaith Volunteer Caregiver’s Community Room. County Board Chair, Jeff Amo, read a Proclamation declaring March as Women’s History month in the county and Evangelical Lutheran Church Pastor Jenny Hatleli offered an invocation. This year’s honorees include Diane Cain, of Hixton; Laura Thompson from Merrillan, along with Shawn Callisto, Charlene Galston, and Geri Allen, all of Black River Falls. Attendees of the event included past award recipients and local dignitaries. The Jackson County Women in History Recognition Program is a collaborative effort between Interfaith, Sheriff’s Department, Black River Health’s Volunteer Services, and the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Jackson County. Since 1997, 140 Jackson County women have been honored for their dedication and contributions to their communities.
