“Nurture. Heal. Thrive. – Embracing a Healthier you!” was the theme for the 2nd Annual Jackson County Wellness Extravaganza. It was held on Wednesday, May 15th from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the Milt Lunda Memorial Arena. The event was hosted by Jackson County Behavioral Health and Jackson County Public Health, in partnership with many different agencies and individuals from the community. The event was funded by the two departments, grants, and twenty-seven community sponsors. There were nearly 500 in attendance, along with more than 125 staff, partners, and volunteers.
Participants had a variety of stations to visit on the 8 dimensions of wellness. At each station, there was information and interactive activities. There were over 24, including those on nutrition, dental care, financial wellness, occupational wellness, suicide prevention, substance abuse, connecting with nature, mindfulness, the power of positive mindset, internet safety, summer safety, physical fitness, mind, body and spirit, fire safety, and more. In addition to these fun and informative stations, there were inflatables, hair tinsel, face painting, and a free meal. Participants were able to visit stations and earn punches on a punch card that could be turned in for raffle prizes. There were over 50 prizes available for all ages.
It was a fun and informative night where community members could come together, make social connections, and learn small bits of helpful information and new skills to take home and incorporate in their daily lives.
