The Wisconsin State Climatology Office is looking for volunteer precipitation observers across the state. Officials say the data helps track snowfall trends, drought conditions, and heavy rainfall—while also improving forecasts by providing the National Weather Service with on-the-ground reports. Because weather can vary widely and official stations aren’t everywhere, volunteers help fill in the gaps—especially in rural areas and counties like Trempealeau and Juneau. Participants measure rain, snow, and hail using a standardized gauge and report their findings, a process that takes about five minutes a day. Those interested can sign up through the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow Network.
