On September 17, 2025, at about 6:54 PM, the Sheriff’s Office received a report of an
intoxicated patron at a business in the Village of Alma Center. The witness reported a subject
broke items before leaving in vehicle at a high rate of speed.
A Deputy located a vehicle matching the description provided and observed it to have damage
to the front end. After observing a traffic violation, the Deputy made contact with the vehicle
and driver.
During the contact, the driver was identified as Charles Spangler, age 56, of Alma Center.
Spangler displayed signs of impairment and refused field sobriety testing. Spangler was taken
into custody and during a search of the vehicle, a firearm was located. A vehicle crash scene
was located elsewhere, and it was believed Spangler’s vehicle had been involved.
Spangler was arrested and booked into the Jackson County Jail for Operating While Intoxicated
11th Offense, Possession of a Firearm-Felon, Tampering with Ignition Interlock, Operating after
Revocation, and Threats to Law Enforcement.
At the time of arrest, Spangler was already on Probation/Parole for felony OWI and being in
possession of a firearm by a felon.
At this time, all parties involved retain a presumption of innocence until adjudicated otherwise
in a court of law.
