Alyce Jule (nee Moll) Schreiber, 86, of Alma Center passed away peacefully March 11,
2025, surrounded by family under the care of hospice at the Serenity House in Tomah,
Wisconsin.
Alyce was born to her parents Walter and Jule (nee Eble) Moll on July 4, 1938, being
born on the 4th of July really made her a true “Firecracker”. Alyce grew up on her family
farm with her brother Paul and sister Marion where she formed her love for the farm life.
She graduated from Waukesha Memorial High School 1956. Alyce met Harold
Schreiber on the dance floor at Muskego Beach where many Saturday night dances
were held. Local orchestra’s would be found playing “Old Time Music”. Harold would
raise his left hand and Alyce would put her right hand on his and they would dance the
most beautiful steps together. Watching them dance was truly magical. Alyce and
Harold married on November 2,1960, and began their farm life together in Bristol,
Wisconsin. To make extra money Alyce would sell her farm fresh eggs and produce on
the weekends to the tourists going to the lake for the weekend getaway. From Bristol
they moved to Lake Mills, Wisconsin, then to Middleton, Wisconsin, and in 1971 they
moved to the Alma Center area.
Alyce’s true career started when she took a waitressing job in a little cafe in Northfield,
Wisconsin, little did she know just how long this career would last! After the Northfield
Cafe was sold she went to work at Stevens Interstate which is now Stop and Go in
Hixton, Wisconsin. Alyce enjoyed the people she met while working and the friendships
that were made. You couldn’t go anywhere and someone would know Alyce. She was
even famous for her radio ad “The Alyce Schreiber”, a radio ad that aired on WAXX
Radio. Waitressing was hard work and long hours, with time it took a toll on her legs and
feet. She would do her morning chores feeding the calves and cows and be to work by
6:30 A.M. to have that cup of coffee ready for her customers. She also worked at
Gaethje Greenhouse in Hixton. Alyce enjoyed flowers. The Gladioli was her favorite
flower; she won many awards for her Gladioli at the Jackson County Fair. Her stiff
competitor was her good friend Marie Olson.
Alyce enjoyed playing cards and bowling with the ladies; she would attend state and
national tournaments with her team. Many friendships were formed and laughs were
made. Alyce’s biggest pride and joy was her yard. She took great pride in her lawn and
flowers. Whether the tree was dead or alive, no tree was ever cut down.
Alyce watched many brides walk down the aisle with her beautiful creations of flower
bouquets each one unique and special in their own way. She created beautiful flower
arrangements for many occasions. There were many long nights spent creating that
perfect bouquet at her kitchen table, if there was a hiccup a bride never knew.
Alyce served on the Jackson County Dairy Promotion Committee, Jackson County Fair
Board and was Superintendent of Open Class Flowers at the Jackson County Fair for

many years. In 2005 she was honored to be a recipient of the Jackson County Women
in History.
Alyce enjoyed listening to the morning farm show on WAXX. She knew what the
agriculture markets were doing and what the cattle prices were. Alyce was interested in
knowing what was going on at the farm and wondering how the crops were doing. The
Buy Line hosted by WWIS was another radio show she enjoyed, sometimes calling in to
sell an item or looking for someone to do a little job or to wish someone a happy
birthday or anniversary.
Alyce was a true hard worker. She instilled her work ethic into each one of her children .
Alyce felt her best and her worthiness when she could work. Retirement was something
she never wanted. As time went on her mind said go, go! But her body said no, no! I am
tired, I am worn out, I have given you the best and it is time to rest.
In addition to her husband Harold, Alyce is preceded in death by her parents; brother
Paul sister-in-law Margaret Moll; brother-in-law Donald Ayers and sister-in-law Janet
Hartmann.
She is survived by her children; Steven (Kristal) Schreiber of Black River Falls, Lori
(Ted) Janke of Hixton, Kenneth (Barb) Schreiber of Hixton. Grandchildren Corey
(Adrianne) Janke; Travis Janke; Paige (Lucas) Norby; great grandson Rhett Wayne
Janke; sister Marion Ayers of Carnegie, PA; brother-in-law Rolf Hartmann of Waterford,
WI; Andrew Haldeman, step grandson along with a niece and nephews.
