The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says applications for the 2026 elk hunt open Sunday, March 1, and close May 31.

This year brings more hunting opportunities, including higher quotas in the Central Elk Management Zone—six bull and six antlerless elk—and eight bull elk in the Northern Zone. The season runs continuously from October 17 through December 13.

Wisconsin residents can apply online through the Go Wild portal or at license agents. Selected hunters must complete an elk hunter education course before obtaining their license.

More details are available on the DNR’s website.
