On October 12, 2023, at about 11:55 PM, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a
report of a home invasion in the Village of Hixton. During the incident, the male suspect
identified as Anthony Sylvester IV, reportedly brandished a firearm and stabbed a person inside
the residence, fleeing the scene prior to deputies’ arrival. Despite extensive attempts to locate the
suspect immediately, Sylvester eluded apprehension.
In the following days, Jackson County deputies, detectives, and members of command staff were
actively searching for Sylvester, patrolling heavily in areas he frequented, interviewing his
known associates and family members, and following up on every tip submitted by members of
our community.
The facts and circumstances of the case were presented to the Jackson County District Attorney’s
Office and based on the violent nature of the incident, ADA Jeri Marsolek filed for an arrest
warrant for Sylvester for the charge of Attempted 1st Degree Intentional Homicide, with
nationwide extradition. The warrant was authorized and signed by a judge on October 17th, 2023.
On October 18th, the Sheriff’s Office enlisted the assistance of the U.S. Marshal Service in the
search for Sylvester.
Members of the U.S. Marshall Service and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office located Sylvester
at a residence in Taylor, Wisconsin, on October 26th, 2023, and took him into custody without
incident. He was booked into the Jackson County Jail on the charge of Attempted 1st Degree
Intentional Homicide, a class A felony. His bond amount was set by the courts on October 27th at
$750,000 cash.
The investigating deputy on this case has referred additional charges to the DA’s Office against
Anthony Sylvester, including Violation of a Domestic Injunction, Domestic Disorderly Conduct,
Burglary, First Degree Reckless Injury, Battery causing Great Bodily Harm, and Endangering
Safety by use of a Dangerous Weapon.
This case remains under investigation, and additional law enforcement action may be taken
against those individuals who assisted Sylvester in escaping and evading apprehension or
intentionally interfered with this investigation.
