Betty Jane Thomas, age 96, passed away February 7, 2023 at the Pine View Nursing Home in Black River
Falls, Wisconsin. Betty was born July 5, 1926, in the Town of Albion to John and Ida Lillian (Hoem) Wyss.
She was raised on her parents’ farm in the Town of Albion and attended Black River Falls High School,
graduating in 1944.
After graduation, she worked at Camp McCoy until August of 1946. From there she worked at the
Register of Deeds office at the Jackson County Courthouse until 1949.
Betty married Garth “Mike” Thomas on June 7, 1947 at Little Norway Lutheran Church, Black River Falls.
In 1949, she started working as the bookkeeper at Thomas Bros Dairy that was owned by her husband
and his brother, Pat and continued working for them until 1972. It was then bought by Ludeman Dairy,
and she worked for them until 1976. From 1978 until 1995, Betty worked in the liquor department at Al-
Min, Inc.
Betty had a love of animals and was a mom to many cats and dogs; she would spoil them with cuddles
that she gave so freely. She also made sure to feed her countless squirrels, birds (including turkeys), and
raccoons and loved watching them out her window.
Betty was a great cook and baker; she loved having company whether it be her family or friends and
made everyone feel welcome.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike, her parents, her father-in law and mother-in law,
Frank and Olga Thomas, brother, LaVerne (Bud) Wyss, sister-in law, Valerie Wyss, sister, Ruth Huber,
brother-in-law, Roger Huber, brother, John Wyss, a sister-in-law Wilma Wyss, brother-in law, Pat
Thomas, sister-in-law Virginia Thomas, sister-in-law Betty Nortman, brother-in-law Henry Nortman,
nieces Sandra and Arlene Kay Thomas and nephews Greg Wyss, Dennis and Joel Thomas.
Betty is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 2:00 pm, at Little Norway Lutheran Church. A
private burial will be conducted at Riverside Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm, February 18 th until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Little Norway Vision Fund or Jackson County Humane
Society.
