The Black River Falls Common Council held a special session on April 15, 2025. During the meeting, Alderperson Busse was elected Council President by majority vote, receiving four votes to Alderperson M. Rave’s two.
Mayor Jay Eddy announced updates to the 2025–2026 Mayor’s Appointments. Alderperson Gearing-Lancaster will remain on the Airport Commission, while Mary Woods and Barb Simonis were both reappointed to the Historic Preservation Commission, with terms running through 2028. Additional appointments are expected in the near future.
The Council also approved Security Financial Bank, Black River Country Bank, Co-op Credit Union, Waumandee State Bank, and BNY Mellon/Pershing as official city depositories. The Banner Journal was designated as the official city publication.
A public hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. to consider a possible sex offender residency ordinance.
The Black River Falls Common Council met in special session on April 15, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. for Old Council Business. Highlights from the meeting include the Council’s approval of a revised Fire Chief job description and the 2025 paving bid from Mathy Construction totaling just over $116,000. Fire Chief Jody Stoker also announced his transition from the role, thanking the Council for their support. Mayor Eddy commended his years of service.
The Council approved the purchase of a new subcompact tractor with attachments for the Parks Department at a cost of $18,369. They also held first readings of two ordinances: one adopting the 2025–2045 Comprehensive Plan and another to rezone a parcel from R-1 to R-Duplex.
In financial matters, the Council approved the March vouchers totaling over $616,000, as well as the City Treasurer’s and Revenue & Expense Reports.
A closed session was held to discuss an offer for a city-owned vehicle and ongoing legal strategy related to a property assessment case with Wal-Mart. Upon reconvening, the Council accepted a $10,000 offer from the Hixton Fire Department for a 1996 fire truck.
