The Black River Falls Common Council met in special session Wednesday, September 16th, at City Hall.
School District of Black River Falls representatives presented information on the district’s November 3rd referendum, which would ask voters to allow the district to exceed revenue limits by one million dollars for four years for operational expenses.
The council also reviewed the city’s proposed 2027 Capital Budget, totaling $453,900, a two-percent increase from 2026. The budget includes a $400,000 LRIP grant and a planned $550,000 debt issuance to cover the city’s share of the Forest Street reconstruction project.
Other actions included approving an ordinance prohibiting smoking, vaping and tobacco products at Marks Field, and approving a six-month pilot program for a four-day work week for Deputy Clerk/Treasurer positions.
The council also learned the city has hired a new mechanic, who will begin work September 28th. The city administrator provided an update on the Make My Move talent recruitment program, noting that it could take 30 to 40 offers before an applicant chooses to move to Black River Falls.
The council approved August vouchers totaling $482,736.14, along with the city treasurer’s and revenue and expense reports.
Finally, Brenda Miles was appointed as the Ward 4 alderperson.
