On January 22 at 20:50 the Black River Falls Fire Department was paged by the Jackson County
Emergency Communications Center for a report of smoke in the laundry room at 600 Oasis
Road in Brockway Township, Jackson County Wisconsin. This address in the location of Sure
Stay Plus by Best Western. Upon arrival of Incident Command, it was found that there was an
active fire with high heat and dense smoke located in the main laundry room of the business,
and there was heavy smoke spreading through the building. Mutual aid was requested from
Hixton Fire Department, County Line Fire Department, Hatfield Fire Department, and Melrose
Fire Department. Also, the Blair Preston Fire Department was request to backfill the Hixton
station with and engine. An aggressive interior attack was conducted while other crews
confirmed the evacuation of all registered guests form the rooms. The fire was quickly brought
under control and the fire damage was limited to the room of origin. It was confirmed that all
guests and staff were evacuated and accounted for. Crews remained on scene for some time
ventilating the smoke from the building. All fire units were cleared form the scene at 22:43.
The response to the scene included a total of 9 apparatus, 1 ambulance, and 38 personnel.
There were no reported civilian or firefighter injuries.
No damage estimate or fire cause is available at this time.
