The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development says the state added jobs in August while unemployment held steady.

Preliminary federal estimates show Wisconsin had just over 3,068,000 total nonfarm jobs, up 8,600 from July and nearly 23,000 higher than a year ago.

The state’s unemployment rate remained at 3.1%, well below the national average of 4.3%. Wisconsin’s labor force participation rate was 64.8%, more than two points above the national rate.

Over the past month, the state’s labor force shrank by about 7,100 people, while the number of employed residents dropped by 6,000.
