This past weekend saw Post 200 participating in Onalaska’s 5 team round robin tournament. BRF opened the tournament Friday afternoon. The weather was HOT and so was BRF as they surprised Fennimore with an 8-0, 5 inning rule thrashing. Aiden Gunderson pitched the shutout and earned the victory on the mound.
Saturday, Post 200 took on a scrappy squad from Prairie Du Chien in an early morning thriller. BRF had to come from behind twice late in the game to force extra innings. Trailing by one run in the top of the 6th, BRF managed to tie the game only to see PDC retake the lead in their half of the frame. But the never-say-die crew from Black River wasn’t finished, sending the game to extra innings by pushing a run across with two out in the top of the 7th. Post 200 plated a run in the top of the 8th and held on for the win. Noah Kubaskie pitched a beauty but Danny Gerdes picked up the 6-5 victory in relief.
In another early morning game on Sunday, BRF took on tournament favorite Onalaska. Connor O’Brien took the mound for Post 200 and tossed a complete game gem, giving up only 4 hits to the powerful Onalaska squad. The lead changed hands more than once but BRF fell to eventual tournament champion Onalaska in a 5-4 heartbreaker.
Post 200 finished the tournament by facing an old nemesis in GET. Archer Grant got the start and in another brilliant performance by BRF pitchers, tossed a 2-hit shutout through 6 innings. Noah Larkin pitched the 7th inning to finish off this 6-0 laugher.
The only thing the boys from Black River could do now was hope that Onalaska would lose one or both of their remaining games. But it wasn’t to be and Post 200 had to settle for 2nd place.
