Black River Memorial Hospital (BRMH) is excited to announce the advancement of two highly
qualified and deeply committed employees – Julia Smith and Nicole Schweitzer. Julia Smith,
who has been with BRMH since 2020, has been selected as the new Executive Director of
Patient Care Services. Nicole Schweitzer, a member of the BRMH team for 26 years, will also
be serving the organization in a new capacity as the Executive Director of Provider and
Clinical Services.
Julia Smith holds a Master’s degree in Nursing, with a specialization in Nurse Education, from
Chamberlain College of Nursing. She began her BRMH journey during the challenging times
of the pandemic, joining as the Infection Prevention & Quality Registered Nurse (RN). Her
leadership during this critical period demonstrated her ability to navigate complex situations
and prioritize the health of the community. Her outstanding performance led to her
subsequent roles as the Interim Director of Nursing Services in conjunction with the Director
of Quality and Risk Management. With a solid foundation in critical care as an ICU nurse and
experience as a college instructor, hospital float RN, and end-of-life care RN, Julia brings a
diverse range of expertise into her new position. In Smith’s new role as Executive Director of
Patient Care Services, she will be responsible for overseeing the strategic direction of patient
care and ensuring the delivery of compassionate and high-quality services.
Nicole Schweitzer holds a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy as well as an
Executive Master of Business Administration, both obtained from UW-Madison. In 2022, she
also earned a Master of Arts in Servant Leadership from Viterbo University. Schweitzer
embarked on her journey at BRMH as an occupational therapy clinician within the
rehabilitation department. In this role, she had the privilege of caring for numerous patients
and their families during their recovery from illnesses and injuries. Schweitzer then advanced
into the position of Rehabilitation Director, where she served for 20 years. During this tenure,
she assumed various leadership responsibilities at both local and state levels, fostering
valuable experiences, extensive networks, and strong professional relationships – all crucial
components as she assists BRMH to fulfill its mission and vision of advancing a healthier
community by providing excellent care, close to home. In November of 2022, Schweitzer’s
remarkable performance led to her promotion to the Senior Director of Ancillary and Support

Services. Recognizing her proven track record of success, commitment to leadership, and
unwavering dedication to BRMH and its patients, she was further promoted to her current
role as the Executive Director of Provider and Clinical Services. In her new role, Schweitzer
will oversee the operations of the Black River Healthcare Clinic, diagnostic imaging,
laboratory, nutrition services, and pharmacy while also managing provider relations.
“Julia and Nicole’s promotions are a testament to their exceptional skills, extensive
experience, and steadfast commitment to the health and well-being of our community,”
expressed Carl Selvick, President and CEO of BRMH. “I look forward to witnessing the
achievements they will accomplish and the difference they will make in their new capacities.”
