October 12th is National Farmers Day, a chance to recognize the men and women who form the backbone of Wisconsin’s communities and economy. Fall is also peak agritourism season, with wagon rides, corn mazes, and harvest festivals highlighting the hard work of farmers.
Wisconsin’s agriculture industry contributes more than $116 billion a year to the state’s economy, with nearly one in ten workers holding an agriculture-related job. In 2024, Wisconsin exported almost $4 billion in agricultural and food products to 151 countries, from dairy and crops to meat and other goods.
Governor Tony Evers and the legislature have invested in farmer support through conservation programs, road improvements, processing expansion, food security efforts, and mental health services. The Farmer Wellness Program continues to provide a 24/7 helpline, counseling vouchers, and virtual support for farmers and their families.
On this National Farmers Day—and every day—Wisconsinites are encouraged to support farmers by visiting local harvest festivals, buying local products, and thanking the farmers who put food on our tables.
