The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is celebrating Forest Products Week, October 19th through the 25th.
Wisconsin’s 17 million acres of forestland supply the raw materials for a $27 billion forest products industry that supports more than 56,000 jobs statewide. When indirect impacts are included, the industry contributes over $41 billion to Wisconsin’s economy.
The state leads the nation in papermaking — a title it’s held for more than 70 years. The DNR says forest products are part of everyday life, from paper and packaging to lumber and furniture, and play a key role in fighting climate change by storing carbon.
DNR leaders say sustainable forestry practices ensure Wisconsin’s forests continue providing environmental, recreational, and economic benefits for generations to come.
