On Tuesday, August 17, 2021, Charles Milton Jacobson,
beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great
grandfather passed away just before sunset at age 81.
His family was at his bedside in the 100-year-old farmhouse
on the dairy farm where he and his father before him grew
up.
He will be remembered for his kind and generous spirit and
his willingness to help family, friends, and neighbors with
whatever building or repair project they undertook.
Charles (Chuck) was born on June 11, 1940, in Black River
Falls, WI to Milton and Irene (Olson) Jacobson. He received a degree in Vocational Agriculture from the University of Wisconsin River Falls in 1962 and was recruited to be a field inspector for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. In 1972 a new regulatory agency was formed from a bureau of FDA and Chuck continued his 31-year career in the Washington, DC area as a Compliance Officer for the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. He retired from Federal service in 1993 and started his own consulting firm to advise companies about required safety warnings on household products.
Over the years, he and wife Barbara enjoyed trips to many states in the U.S. including California, New York, Hawaii, and Alaska. Annual reunions with Barbara’s side of the family were attended at Holden Beach, North Carolina. International destinations included cruises in the Caribbean, a trip to France with friends, and a once in a lifetime family trip to Norway.
With the goal of spending winters with his own fishing boat in the back yard, he and his wife Barbara moved to Englewood, Florida in 2003. It has been their dream retirement for 18 years. Winters were spent on the gulf coast of Florida with wonderful friends and neighbors and dolphins swimming in Lemon Bay across the street. Summers were enjoyed in Wisconsin with family growing vegetables, picking local strawberries and blueberries, eating Cousin Gary’s sweet corn, giving tractor rides to grandchildren, and sitting on the front porch watching the hummingbirds.
Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Milton (Pike), and his mother, Irene. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara, his daughters, Kimberly and Michelle, his sister, Margaret, sister-in-law, Page, grandsons Robert and James, granddaughters, Katherine and Brook, great-grandsons Collin and Owen, and nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Charles was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Alma Center. A graveside service will be officiated by Pastor David F. Shudy at 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at the East Lawn Cemetery in Alma Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Black River Memorial Hospice, 311 County Highway A, Black River Falls, WI 54615. The family was assisted by Chippewa Valley Cremation Services of Altoona, WI.
