A child discovered an explosive device while playing in a wooded area near Chippewa Falls Thursday evening. Reports say the child told his father of the pipe bomb-like device. The father called authorities and started to bring it into the Police Department. He was told to pull over, and put the device down until crews could respond. The Marathon County Bomb Squad identified the device as a live bomb, and took it to the Chippewa Falls Police Department Range where it was safely destroyed. It’s unknown how long the pipe bomb was lying in the woods. No other devices were found. Anyone with information is asked to call the Chippewa Falls Police Department at 715-720-4189.
