The Common Council of Black River Falls held a special session on March 19, 2025, with members attending both in person and via Zoom.

Department Reports:

The Fire Chief reported that new part-time EMTs are being onboarded and the EMS schedule is full.
The Police Chief noted challenges in hiring qualified Patrol Officers, a trend seen across law enforcement agencies.
The Parks & Recreation Director updated the Council on the Marks Field Project, with costs rising to $1.4 million. Donors will cover most of the cost, while the city may fund $80,000 for water and sewer infrastructure.
Ordinance Passed: The Council approved Ordinance 892, increasing the city’s room tax from 7% to 8% and expanding the tax to cover short-term rentals like Airbnb and VRBO.

Other Approvals:

A Temporary Alcohol Beverage License was granted for the Guardian Angels Parish Fish Fry and Bake Sale on March 21.
The Council approved February 2025 financial reports and vouchers totaling $2.84 million.
