(Milwaukee, WI) — The Black Student Council at Marquette University says it protested during the school’s convocation ceremony Thursday in response to the elimination of the Office of Engagement and Inclusion. Marquette officials say the ceremony for the incoming freshman class will be rescheduled. The B-S-C says it is “absurd” that there is just one staff member to work with the more than 100 students in the university’s Urban Scholars program. Most in the program are students of color. When the convocation was supposed to get underway B-S-C members and other students took over the stage.
