The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection has awarded six Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin grants to help strengthen the state’s local food economy. The competitive grant program supports farms and food businesses in processing, marketing, and distributing Wisconsin-grown products.

DATCP Secretary Randy Romanski says the funding helps producers expand operations, connect with local distributors, and get more Wisconsin foods into communities.

This year, 37 applicants sought more than $1.4 million, with $200,000 distributed among six recipients:

Main Oriental Market, Green Bay – Expanding value-added markets for Wisconsin Hmong farmers.

Misfits Homegrown, Manitowoc – Improving distribution of local beef, pork, and poultry.

Prairie Folk Farm, Chilton – Upgrading marketing and feed system innovations.

Ranch Brand Meat Co., Chippewa Falls – Supporting growth to expand access to Wisconsin-raised beef.

Riemer Family Farm, Brodhead – Launching a content-driven marketing initiative for pasture-raised meats.

Sacred Blossom Farm, Gilmanton – Expanding distribution and awareness of Wisconsin-grown herbs and teas.

Since the program began in 2008, Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin grants have funded 134 projects, generating more than $14.7 million in new local food sales and supporting thousands of producers and markets statewide.
