As Wisconsin sports fans get ready to cheer on the Milwaukee Brewers in the postseason, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection is warning fans to watch out for ticket scams.
High demand for playoff tickets creates opportunities for scammers selling fake or counterfeit tickets. DATCP Secretary Randy Romanski urges fans to be skeptical of prices that seem too good to be true, photocopied tickets, and sellers demanding payment through wire transfers or prepaid debit cards.
Officials recommend buying tickets through official sources, including the Brewers website, the MLB Ballpark app, or trusted resale marketplaces. Fans should avoid screenshots and PDF ticket attachments, and instead insist on official in-app ticket transfers.
DATCP also warns against buying tickets through social media or classified ads without verifying the seller. Credit cards offer better options for disputing fraudulent charges than cash or other unprotected payment methods.
Anyone who believes they have been scammed can contact the DATCP Consumer Information Hotline at 800-422-7128 or file a complaint through the department’s website.
