David C. Norgaard, age 85, passed away August 27, 2023 at the Veterans
Administration Hospital in Tomah, WI. David was born on December 15, 1937 in Galesville, WI
to Joseph M. and Josephine A. Norgaard. He was a graduate of Melrose High School, class of
1955. After schooling, he enlisted in the US Air Force and was stationed in Japan, Guam and
Columbus, MS. On June 21, 1957, he married Barbara E. Churchill of Black River Falls, WI.
They settled in Melrose, WI where they raised their family. He worked at Norgaard Insurance
Agency and clerked auctions for Northern Investment Company. During those years, David also
worked as a school bus driver, rural mail carrier and volunteer firefighter. He was active in the
Melrose Rotary Club and his church. In 2020, David and Barbara moved to La Crosse.
David was on the first Melrose High School football team he played baseball as well. He liked
sports at all levels. David enjoyed motorcycling with friends and family but especially with Barb.
Their activities through Retreads traveling to various parts of the country was a highlight for
them. He enjoyed deer hunting, building bird houses and attending his grandchildren’s many
school activities.
David is survived by his son John (Jane) Norgaard of Melrose, WI and daughter Lauren (David)
LeBlanc of Black River Falls, WI. He was very proud of his grandchildren Jaclyn Smith of
Holmen, WI, J Erik (Kasia) Norgaard of Plover, WI , Averi (Jordan) Talburt of Kilauea, HI, Alyson
(Jordan) Ogren of Winona, MN, Andrew Clement of Cornell, WI , Alex Dechant of Eau Claire,
WI and Austin Dechant of La Crosse, WI, six great grand children, and eight nieces and
nephews. Along with his parents, David is preceded in death by his wife Barbara, sister Elaine
(Bill) Sawyer of Melrose, sister Betty (Robert) Wyss of Black River Falls, WI and brothers-in-law,
cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Torgerson
Funeral Home, 408 N. Water Street, Black River Falls, WI with a memorial service beginning at
11:00 am including military honors. There will be a luncheon following at the Lunda Community
Park lower shelter. A private family burial will be held that afternoon at the Hardies Creek
Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Ettrick, WI.

Hospice and Tomah VA for their dedicated compassionate care. They ask that memorials be
