David entered into his eternal residence on Friday, October 14th, 2022 from the Grand View
Care Center with the loving, caring staff & his daughter at his side.
David was born on July 3rd, 1935 in Trempealeau, to Clayton & Margaret (Malchaski)
Hammond, who passed away shortly after. He was raised with love by her sister Kathryn who
married Clayton.
He enlisted in the Air Force on 2/5/1954. He served in the military, active duty, for four years as
an Airman 2nd Class. He worked as an aircraft electrical repairman & mechanic. While serving
he received National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, & Army Occupation Medal
while stationed in France & Germany.
Upon return he met & married Carol (Ballou) Hammond. They owned & farmed a small dairy
near Trump Coulee, by Taylor, WI.
David held many jobs in his lifetime including construction and outdoor billboard sign setting.
His favorite though was working for the U.S. Forest Service, where he maintained three
campgrounds.
David is survived by son, Allen (Nancy) Hammond; daughter, Veronica “Vee” Price;
grandchildren, Amber Price, Abigail, Rachel, and Rebecca Hammond; great grandchild, Daisey
Morales; sisters, Donna Hunsley, Judy (Penny) Girling, Carol (Nick) Kamper, Sandra (Gene)
Gonia, and Diane (John) Anderson; brothers, John (Cindy) Hammond, Kenneth (Marie)
Hammond, and Troy (Bette) Hammond.
David is preceded in death by his parents; sister Ruby (Ken) Mathews; brothers, Gordon and Earl
Hammond, and brother-in-law, John Hunsley.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Mr. Dennis Gonia for all of his
assistance with David.
A funeral service for David will take place Saturday, October 22, 2022 at the Jensen- Modjeski
Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Elden Simonson will officiate. Friends and family are invited
from visitation from 9:30 a.m. until time of services. A burial will immediately follow the
service at the Woodlawn Cemetery.
