David L. Johnson, 62, of Holmen, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, in his home.
David was born July 22, 1962, to Reuben and Dorothy Johnson, in La Crosse, Wisconsin. David met the love of his life, Bonnie, in the “Coop” on the Matiak family farm, in 1981. After five fun years of dating, they married on December 27, 1986. From that day on, they have been inseperable and soon had two beautiful and amazing daughters.
With his sense of humor and sarcasm, David was always the life of the party. He loved hunting, fishing, cooking, tending his yard and gardening, but most of all, spending time with his family. Every weekend was spent with family either in the pool, playing bags, shopping, watching a Packer game, shinning deer, or just simply sitting at the kitchen table. David made sure he always had something special on the grill for everyone. And, let’s not forget that ice cold Bud Light.
David spent his career driving truck. He started out over the road, but soon realized that he couldn’t be away from his young family for too long, so he went to drive for Harter Trucking. For the last 32 years, “Uncle Dave” has been behind the wheel at Harter’s, driving, mentoring, and generally making anyone’s day his path crosses better with his good natured ribbing, laughter, and smile.
David is survived by the love of his life, Bonnie; his two daughters, Amanda Johnson of Melrose, WI and Amber and her husband, David’s favorite son-in-law, Roger Williams of Melrose, WI; his grandson, shadow and co-pilot, Ryley Williams and his beautiful grandaughters, Hailey Williams and Emiley Williams, all of Melrose, WI. His sisters, Marleen (John) Lisowski of Independence, WI, and Diane (Neil) Hendrickson of West Salem, WI, his brother Bill (Sue) Johnson of La Crosse, WI, his brother-in-law, Butch Ehlo of La Crosse, WI and sister-in-law Paula Johnson of Olive Branch, MS. His mother-in-law Janice Clott of Holmen, WI. His sisters-in-law, Sandra (Nels) Hanson of Ridgecrest, CA, Laura (Jeremy) Nordie of Ettrick, WI, Christine (Alan) Vehrenkamp of Ettrick, WI, and Susan (James Powell) Matiak of Lopez Island, WA, and his brother before brother-in-law and best friend, Steven (Teresa Baird) Matiak of Ettrick, WI. Along with so many beloved nieces and nephews, too many to name, but all were adored and cherished by David.
David is preceeded in death by his parents Reuben and Dorothy Johnson; his father-in-law Harvey Matiak; his sisters, Mary Moses, Sharon Gile, Millie (Dave) Kerchner, and Betty Ehlo; his brothers, Reuben Johnson, Jr., Floyd (Donna) Johnson, Arnie Johnson, and Peter Paul Johnson.
Above all else, David put his family first.
