David Lee Frederick

David Lee Frederick, age 70, of Black River Falls passed away Thursday, January 5 th , 2023 at
Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse, WI. David was born July 8 th , 1952 in Black
River Falls to Jerry and Joyce (Swartling) Frederick. He grew up in Winona, MN and Merrillan,
WI, graduating from Lincoln High School in Alma Center. This is where he met his high school
sweetheart and love of his life, Terry Jean Laffe. They married on December 14 th , 1974 at
Evangelical Lutheran Church. They shared 53 years together, creating a beautiful and loving life
and family.
David led a life of service with over 40 years of Law Enforcement in the State of Wisconsin. He
shared his knowledge and compassion with the City of Osseo, Sauk County, Jackson County,
Department of Corrections and the City of Black River Falls, where he was an Officer, then
Investigator and ended his watch as the Police Chief before retiring December 31 st , 2014.
Although David took great pride in his career, he would tell you that his greatest accomplishment
was his family. He was an immensely devoted, attentive and loving husband, father and
grandfather, truly loving all time he spent with each and every one of his family members. Some
of his most favorite times were those spent at the family cabin. This time included cookouts,
boating, fishing and long evening hangouts. David also loved spending every deer hunting
season out in nature with his family and friends. Not sure he cared if he ever saw a deer as long
as the right people were there in the woods with him.
David is survived by his wife of 48 years Terry, sons Christopher, Jason and Adam (Amanda)
Frederick, daughter Karen (Derek) Ulness, grandchildren Nick (Sonja) Ulness, Lauryn Frederick,
Kora (fiancée Dakota Garrett) Ulness, Kayla Frederick, Reagan Frederick and Grayson
Frederick. He is further survived by his brother Michael (Betty) Frederick and their families, his
sister Lesann (Jim) Garman and their families, his Aunt Janice (Glenn) Mack, his daughter-in-
law Jill, best friend Jeff Hale and many more beloved family members, friends and colleagues.
David was preceded in death by his loving mother, Joyce Rhoades, his brother, Allen Rhoades,
uncles Ron and Leo Swartling and in-laws Arthur and Marjorie Laffe.
Services for David Lee Frederick will be held Saturday, January 21st, 2023 at Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Black River Falls. Visitation from 9am-11am with full service and luncheon
to follow.
