Dennis Benusa, age 79, of Arcadia, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 17,
2026, at Lakeview Health Center in West Salem, surrounded by his family. His quick-witted
humor, warm smile, and silly sound effects brought laughter to those around him and remained
with him to the very end.
Dennis was born on May 8, 1947, in Arcadia, Wisconsin, to Gilbert and Ruth (Reuter) Benusa.
He attended Arcadia High School, where he set a pole vault record that stood for many
years—a feat he remained quietly proud of. He graduated in 1965 and honorably served in the
Wisconsin Army National Guard from 1964 to 1973.
On September 21, 1973, Dennis married the love of his life, Mary Jo “Honey Jo” (Rothering)
Benusa. Together they built a life centered on family and raised three daughters: Erin, Becky,
and Nichole. During their 52 years of marriage, they enjoyed traveling, spending time with
family, attending grandchildren’s activities, and going for drives, and created countless
memories together.
Dennis grew up in the family business, Benusa Motors, eventually taking over the business from
his father. He was an active member of the Arcadia community, generously giving his time and
talents through organizations such as the Jaycees and the Lions Club, where he served as
president.
He later joined Ashley Furniture Industries in 1975 as employee number 54. Over 38 years, he
built a long and respected career, working in the plant and at furniture markets across the
country, known for his strong work ethic and ability to connect with people.
A true outdoorsman, Dennis found joy in spending time outside. He could often be found on
the golf course, camping, or boating on the Mississippi River with family and friends. He loved
staying active and being surrounded by the people he cared about most.
Above all, Dennis was devoted to his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather,
brother, and friend. He especially cherished being “Grandpa Dennis” and loved attending his
grandchildren’s activities or simply making them laugh with his silliness.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Mary Jo of Arcadia; daughters, Erin (Daniel) Kujak of Onalaska,
WI, Becky (Craig) Sandbulte of Medina, MN, and Nichole (Christopher) Semann of Norwalk, WI;
grandchildren, Evan, Isaac, and Ava Kujak; Annika and Alayna Sandbulte; and Mariah and
Makenah Semann; sister, Vicki (Theodore) Peck; brothers, Gilbert "Bud" (Edie) Benusa and
Gerry (Vicki) Benusa; and many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved granddaughter, Hannah Semann.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at Holy Family
Parish with Reverend Kyle Laylan officiating. Family and friends are welcome for visitation from
9 a.m. until the procession to Mass at 10:45 at Wozney-Killian Funeral Home. Burial will be at
Calvary Cemetery, with a luncheon to follow at Holy Family Parish.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Lakeview Health Center
in West Salem for the compassionate care and support they provided during his final
weeks. Online condolences may be left at www.wozneykillianfh.com.
