The state of Wisconsin is warning people about a surge of fraudulent activity concerning unemployment benefits this week. The Department of Workforce Development says people were being contacted by email, social media, and phone calls. A fake account called the “Wisconsin Department of Workforce” was trying to get personal information with the goal of intercepting the victims’ unemployment insurance benefits. The scammers were communicating with people who had posted comments on the D-W-D’s legitimate Facebook page. The fake page has been taken down.
