The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is inviting libraries across the state to participate in the popular Check Out Wisconsin State Parks at Your Library program, which offers library cardholders the chance to borrow daily passes to state parks, forests, and recreation areas.
Starting November 13, 2024, passes for the 2025 season will be available for libraries to offer to their patrons. The program, now entering its fourth year, is a collaboration between the DNR, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, and over 150 libraries statewide. New for 2025, the program expands to include not only public libraries but also university and technical college libraries. In 2024, the initiative grew to include over 200 library locations across the state, providing free access to Wisconsin’s natural treasures.
In celebration of the Wisconsin State Park System’s 125th anniversary in 2025, visitors who check out passes will have the opportunity to explore the state’s parks, trails, and forests while learning about their history and natural resources. Library cardholders will also receive informational kits, including park maps and accessibility details.
The program offers an exciting opportunity for residents to enjoy Wisconsin’s state parks and join in the anniversary celebrations. Libraries interested in participating can visit the DNR’s Check Out Wisconsin State Parks webpage for more information.
