The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is once again offering free tree seedlings to every fourth-grade student in the state as part of its annual Arbor Day program. Teachers, principals, and homeschool educators can place orders through the 2026 Arbor Day application, due by March 16, 2026.

Since 1984, the program has provided about 50,000 seedlings each year to help students learn about the importance of trees and celebrate Arbor Day, which falls on April 24, 2026. The seedlings come with planting instructions and educational materials.

DNR Chief State Forester Heather Berklund says trees offer many benefits—from providing clean air and water to supporting wildlife—and play a key role in Wisconsin’s pledge to plant 100 million trees by 2030 as part of the Trillion Trees initiative.
