Donald A. Brasda, 81, of rural Osseo, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 2, 2021, after a two and a half year battle with cancer. He passed away knowing his Lord and Savior and in the loving care of his family and Heartland Hospice.
Donald Albert Brasda was born in LaCrosse on Dec. 13, 1939, to George and Olga (Hanson) Brasda. Don was raised in the Coon Valley area of Washington Township in LaCrosse County, until his family moved to Garfield Township in Jackson County in 1946. Except for a few years after he was married, Don had lived his entire life in Garfield Township. Don had attended Levis Country School and graduated in 1957 from Lincoln Hill High School in Osseo.
Don was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith and it was at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fairview, rural Fairchild, that he was united in marriage to Ruth Wegner on June 12, 1976.
Don was raised on a farm and continued to farm until 2010 when he sold his cows. In addition to farming, since the early age of 19 he had worked with the road crew for the Town of Garfield. He was still working in a lesser capacity up until his cancer diagnosis in October of 2018. He had also worked at the township recycling center and served for 22 years as the Emergency Fire Warden for the D.N.R. Don had no need for hobbies as he enjoyed his life as a farmer, working with the cattle and tending to the crops.
He will be remembered as a hard working man and dearly missed by Ruth, his loving wife of nearly 45 years; son David of rural Osseo; daughter, Karen and Jon Kragness of Eau Claire; 3 grandchildren, Erik Kragness, Loralynn Kragness, and Kristoff Kragness; 2 brothers, James and Elizabeth Brasda of Osseo, Wayne and Joey Brasda; sister, Jean and Mike Ray of Hixton; sister-in-law Sherry Brasda of Pigeon Falls; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Don was preceded in death by his parents, George and Olga; siblings, Joyce Hanson, Bernard and Herbert Brasda, and infant brother David C. Brasda.
A visitation will be held Thursday, May 6, 2021, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, and from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in Fairchild. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at the church with burial in the church cemetery.
