Donald J. Klimek, 81, of La Crosse and formerly of Holmen/Independence, died on Monday,
April 7, 2025, at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center in La Crosse.
Don was born in Independence on October 30, 1943, to Paul and Eleanor (Slaby) Klimek. Always
mechanical, Don worked at various jobs and retired from Empire Screen Printing. He enjoyed
tinkering and woodworking and would sell his crafts at local flea markets and fairs. Don also
enjoyed riding motorcycles and even built his own trike that he’d take on rides with family and
friends. He often could be found socializing, meeting new people, and making new friends at his
favorite home away from home: Champions Riverside Resort. Don loved listening to and
making music and was a huge Ray Orbison fan. In his younger years, Don played the guitar and
drums and was even recorded singing. He was an avid bird-watcher and a member of The
Fraternal Order of Eagles- Aerie #1254 in La Crosse.
Don is survived by his siblings: Jane Turner, Kathy Mulholland, Susan Conrad, Vicki (Allen) Filla,
Wayne Klimek, John Klimek, Paul Klimek, Jr., and Tom Klimek; and numerous nieces, nephews
and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: James “Jim” Klimek; and brothers-in-law:
John Turner and Darrel Mulholland.
Services will take place on Tuesday, April 15th.
Family and friends are welcome for visitation from 12 p.m. (noon) to 2 p.m. at the Edison
Funeral Home, Independence, where there will be a public prayer service at 2 p.m. officiated by
Father George Thayilkuzhithottu. Burial will follow in Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery,
