The Wisconsin Department of Revenue has opened applications for its new Innovation Grant program.

The program, created under 2023 Act 12 and updated by 2025 Act 15, helps counties, municipalities, and tribal nations cover costs when they transfer certain services—like public safety, fire protection, courts, IT, health, housing, and more—to another eligible government, nonprofit, or private partner.

Grant awards cover 25% of the prior year’s costs for providing the service, with payments available for up to five years. Funding is capped at $300 million statewide, and each applicant can receive up to $10 million annually.

Applications opened Sept. 17 through the MyDORGov online portal. More details are available on the DOR’s Innovation Grants webpage.
