Dorothy K. Fernholz, 85, of Arcadia, died peacefully Friday, December 8, 2023, at Tomah Health Hospital
while surrounded by family.
Dorothy was born August 5, 1938, in Aberdeen, South Dakota to Frank and Catherine (Heintzman)
Nikolas. She was united in marriage to David Fernholz on December 8, 1973, in West Allis, WI. After
living in Milwaukee for several years, Dorothy and David moved to Arcadia in 1989 to farm.
Dorothy enjoyed figure skating and was a skilled accordion player and bowler as she was in multiple
leagues and made a few trips to women’s state bowling. She was an avid fan of the Brewers, loved
country music, and BINGO. Throughout the years, she took several trips to Clear Water, Florida with her
family and to Vegas with Club 93. While in Vegas she even went to an Elvis concert. Dorothy had a
talent for crocheting beautiful blankets and loved gifting them. After retirement, Dorothy loved going to
Mary Kay’s Kitchen for coffee.
Dorothy is survived by her son, David (Amanda) Fernholz; grandchildren, Kenley and Kolton Fernholz;
and siblings, Sally (Richard) Brach and Gary Nikolas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, David.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, December 15, 2023 at Holy Family Parish in
Arcadia with Reverend Kyle Laylan officiating. Friends and family are welcome for visitation from 10
a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, rural Arcadia. To leave an
