–The Eau Claire Municipal Band opens its 122nd season at 7:30 p.m. on
MONDAY, JUNE 10, at the Donald “Sarge” Boyd bandshell in Owen Park. Municipal band
concerts will continue every Monday through July 29.
Concerts are free to the public and feature patriotic marches, popular show tunes and
classical favorites. The family-friendly concerts also include a children’s “march,” where
children from the audience are invited to parade through the crowd while the band plays.
“The return of the municipal band to the Owen Park bandshell has always signaled the
start of summer for many in the Eau Claire community,” said long-time local musician, retired
music instructor, and municipal band conductor Bob Baldwin, now in his second season with
the band.
Nonprofit organizations also are invited to take turns hosting concessions during the
concerts as a fundraiser. To coordinate dates or follow concert updates, organizations and the
public can visit the band’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/ecmunicipalband.
The Eau Claire Municipal Band is one of the longest-running concert bands in
Wisconsin, tracing its origins to Bock’s Boys Band in 1902. Known in subsequent years as the
Eau Claire Boys Band, the Wisconsin State Band-Eau Claire, and the Liberty Band, the Eau
Claire Municipal Band came upon its current name in 1927.
The 2024 concert season is made possible in part through the generosity of the
Clearwater Kiwanis Club, Eckroth Music, Royal Credit Union, Schmitt Music, Visit Eau
Claire, Xcel Energy, and the Louis and Janet Frase Fund and Community Fund, both held at
the Eau Claire Community Foundation.
