Eric Engebretson, age 70, of Black River Falls, Wisconsin, passed away on April 7, 2023 surrounded by
his loving family.
Eric was born on November 29, 1952 in Black River Falls, WI to Victor and Joan (Stein) Engebretson.
Eric graduated from Black River Falls High school in 1970. Eric married Candace (Lambert) Nachreiner
shortly after high school and later divorced. Eric married Shirley (Marg) Cherwin on June 3, 2000. Eric
and Shirley possessed an undeniable love for each other and thoroughly cherished watching their
grandkids grow, while enjoying and sharing in their many accomplishments. Their time together was
filled with good natured ribbing and enjoying a beer together while watching Judge Judy.
Eric will always be remembered for his sense of humor. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. He was
known for his many sayings and his willingness to help anyone at a moments notice, never asking for
anything in return, except for an occasional Old Milwaukee Light. He loved to hunt and fish with his sons
and grandkids, and enjoyed annual fishing trips with the “Hoy Boys”. He loved watching the Packers and
looked forward to the friendly wager he had every year with his son-in-law Steve (a Bears fan).
Most importantly, Eric loved spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered as a loving,
kind, generous, and hard-working man. Eric was a great carpenter and spent the majority of his career
working for Lunda Construction as the carpenter shop foreman. He retired from Lunda after 32 years and
continued to cherish the many friendships he formed with his coworkers over the years. Additionally, Eric
served the community for 13 years as a member of the Black River Falls Fire Dept.
Surviving Eric are his wife Shirley; his children, Adam (Nancy) Engebretson and Casey (Marcy)
Engebretson of Black River Falls, Wisconsin, Mike (Mozelle) Cherwin of San Francisco, California,
Kelly (Steve) Fask of Elmhurst, Illinois, and Karie (Paul) Graham of Middleton, Wisconsin;
grandchildren, Megan, Ryan, Crayton, Dylan, Isabel, Mayla, Gabrielle, Sophie, Carter, Owen, Estelle,
Ellie, and Liam; siblings, Susan, Cheryl, Lisa (Paul), and Craig (Theresa); and numerous in-laws, nieces,
and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Victor Engebretson, mother Joan Rodenberg, step-father Eugene
Rodenberg, mother-in-law Betty Marg, and brothers-in-law Raymond “Raymo” Aschenbrenner, Robert
Johnston, and David Marg.
