At 8:37 AM on Saturday, October 12, 2024, a serious crash occurred at the intersection of WIS 64 WB and County Road G near Cornell, Chippewa County. A 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by 56-year-old Vickie Colleen Bentley from Sheldon, failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by a westbound 2024 Mazda CX-90 driven by 43-year-old Jeanie Marie Holland-Seczko from Cornell.
Bentley suffered fatal injuries, while Holland-Seczko sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, and there was no indication of alcohol use. Assisting agencies included the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office and local fire departments.
