Frederick Anton Stein, born on June 19, 1945, in Black River Falls WI, died on Saturday, August 1, 2026,
in Albert Lea, MN surrounded by his family.
Fred grew up on the family farm with his parents, the late Carl and Adeline (Stenulson) Stein, two
brothers, Charles and Roger, grandparents and extended family doing chores, hauling cattle, wrestling
with his twin brother and playing cowboys and Indians.
Fred enlisted in the United States Air Force with his twin brother, Roger, and served from 1966-1970 as
an Aerospace Photographic Systems Repairman. Fred’s travels took him to Texas, Idaho, Okinawa, and
California. Fred served in Vietnam from 1968-1969. He was honorably discharged and returned to
Wisconsin.
Upon returning from service, he enrolled to the social work program at University of Wisconsin River
Falls graduating with his bachelor’s degree. Fred married the love of his life, Marietta Joy Palmer on July
7, 1973, and they began their life together. Fred worked for various social work programs in Minnesota
before settling in Albert Lea, where the couple raised their two sons, Andrew and Kristoffer.
Fred had a love of music with an eclectic flair and some of his favorites were classic country western, a
good Irish ballad, and Scottish pipe and drums.
Those left to cherish Fred’s memory include his wife of 53 years, Marietta Stein; sons, Andrew (Erin) and
Kristoffer (Kaitlin) Stein; his grandkids Connor, Gretta, Rosalie and Liam; and his twin brother, Roger and
sister-in-law, Sandra.
In addition to his parents, Carl and Adeline Stein, Fred was preceded in death by his brother, Charles,
and his in-laws, Charles and Artyce Palmer.
The family will host a graveside service at 2:00PM on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the Riverside
Cemetery, 415 Maple St., Black River Falls, WI.
