Gene L. Overlien, 85, of Nashua, Iowa passed away Monday, April 22, 2024, at Waverly Health Center,
Wavlery, Iowa surrounded by his wife and close family friend Becky Gors.
Gene Louis Overlien was born April 11, 1939, in Black River Falls to Glenn and Luella (Nelson) Overlien.
He was raised in the Black River Falls area and graduated from Black River Falls High School. He later
attended Devry Tech in Chicago for electronics and worked in the manufacturing of main frame
computers. Gene enlisted into the army 1962, SP5E5(T) and served with NATO headquarters in Turkey
doing high security electronic messaging with crypto.
He married Barbara in 1965 and had a daughter Sharon. Gene then married Mary in 1986.
Gene retired from Unysis, following his retirement purchased a motel. In 2000 he fully retired to Nashua,
Iowa to his small acreage.
He filled his life spending time with his family and pursuing his hobbies, which included restoring John
Deere tractors, attending auctions, camping, and going to bluegrass festivals and music jams.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; his daughter Sharon Overlien, brother John (Charlotte) Overlien of
Black River Falls and many nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Luella Overlien and his brother Dale Overlien.
Services will be Saturday, April 27, 2024 at the Buswell Funeral Home at 3:00 p.m. Friends and family
are invited to visitation from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. A burial will follow at the Riverside
Cemetery.
Buswell Funeral Home of Black River Falls assisted the family with arrangements.
