In-person visitation restarted today at Waupun Correctional Institution (WCI)
and recreation time will increase at Green Bay Correctional Institution (GBCI) July 28 as the
facilities transition out of modified movement.
“WCI and GBCI continue to make positive changes as the facilities resume normal operations,”
said Jared Hoy, Department of Corrections (DOC) Secretary. “Experienced staff continue to
support newer officers to help operations run smoothly and offer more opportunities to those in
our care.”
The week of May 20, GBCI began offering at least two 50-minute recreation periods per week
with at least one additional recreation period per month. GBCI is now set to resume normal
operations. With the planned increase in recreation time, no administrative rules will be
suspended at GBCI as of July 28. Recreation periods are offered outdoors, weather permitting.
In-person visitation resumed at WCI today with visits being offered each weekday from 8:30
a.m. to 11 a.m. and again from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
More information on how to set up a visit and rules to follow for visiting at WCI can be found
here.
GBCI resumed in-person visits in November. Video visitation will continue at both GBCI and
WCI as well.
Both GBCI and WCI were also two of the first institutions to receive new electronic tablets for
all persons in our care. The tablets, which were provided free to each person in our care, allow
for secure phone calls and messages to be sent to friends and family.
