Alleged hazing incidents back in January have five men facing felony charges. According to news8000.com, the five – all 17 years of age at the time – face charges of false imprisonment – a Class H felony. Two were also charged with 4th degree sexual assault. The criminal complaint states those accused were members of the Alma Center Lincoln High School boy basketball team; and that when traveling home from an away game, they allegedly assaulted a freshmen student. Video evidence showed the upperclassmen grabbing and holding down the victim, making lewd, sexual gestures and attempting to remove clothing items, including the victim’s pants. The complaint includes details of a second incident on the bus, a third in the locker room after getting off the bus…as well as a second victim who was targeted a few days later, though a coach stepped in to stop it. The second victim also reported the accused were making jokes to “do the same thing to the rest of the freshmen on the team.”

According to Jackson County Court records, one of the players pleaded no contest to one count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct and was given a 12-month diversion agreement on October 14th. Two have status conferences set for Monday after entering not guilty pleas. One has a plea/sentencing hearing scheduled for Monday. And the fifth suspect has a plea/sentencing hearing set for December 9th.
