The American Red Cross is urging people to schedule blood and platelet donations this May to help prevent seasonal shortages.
Officials say busy spring schedules and early summer plans often lead to a drop in donations, putting pressure on the blood supply. Donors of all blood types are encouraged to make appointments now, with the option to give again later this summer.
As an incentive, those who donate through May 17th will receive a 20-dollar Amazon gift card, while donors later in the month can receive a Red Cross beach towel, while supplies last.
Multiple blood drives are scheduled across western Wisconsin throughout May, including locations in La Crosse, Onalaska, Sparta, and Tomah.
Residents can schedule an appointment by visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS, or using the Red Cross Blood Donor app.
Officials say just one donation can help save lives and ensure hospitals have the blood they need.
