Wisconsin authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying human remains found nearly two years ago in Florence County.

On October 28, 2022, a hunter discovered skeletal remains in a wooded area. Forensic testing suggests the individual was a white or Hispanic woman, between 30 and 83 years old, about 4-foot-8 to 5-foot-4 in height. Investigators believe she may have died anywhere from two to fifteen years before being found.

Composite sketches of what the woman may have looked like are now available on the Wisconsin Department of Justice Missing Persons website.

Despite DNA testing and searches of state, national, and international databases, the woman has not been identified. A NamUs case profile has also been created, listed as UP98425.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Wisconsin DOJ’s Division of Criminal Investigation at 608-266-1671 or the Florence County Sheriff’s Office at 715-528-3346, and reference “Florence County Jane Doe.”

The investigation is being led by the Wisconsin DOJ, with help from the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, the State Crime Lab, the FBI, and other agencies.
