The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is proposing a Broad Incidental Take Permit/Authorization to cover the unintentional loss of rare fish during transportation projects across the state. This includes activities such as cofferdam installations, dewatering, and fish removals that may impact endangered or threatened fish species.
While most state-listed fish species are covered under this permit, blue sucker, black buffalo, river redhorse, paddlefish, and skipjack herring remain protected under spawning restrictions. The DNR has determined that the projects will minimize harm through conservation measures and will not threaten the survival of these species.
The public is encouraged to submit written comments on project-related impacts by April 4, 2025. More information is available on the DNR Incidental Take Public Notices webpage or by contacting DNR Conservation Biologist Stacy Rowe at 608-228-9796 or Stacy.Rowe@wisconsin.gov.
