The regular monthly meeting for Jackson County Forestry & Parks Department was held at 8:30am on Tuesday,
April 11, 2023 at the Jackson County Courthouse. Those in attendance were: Ed Chamberlain, Jerrold Schmidt, Dale
Hoff, John Higgins, Tom Clark, James Zahasky, Dave Spaude, Jeremy Breheim and Ashley Stetzer
The regular meeting was called to order at 8:30am by Chairman Ed Chamberlain
A motion was made by John Higgins to approve the minutes from the March meeting. The motion was seconded by
Dale Hoff, all members voted in favor.
A motion to approve the bills for payment was made by John Higgins, seconded by Dale Hoff. All members voted in
favor.
Zach Clausing was present from the WI-DNR and gave an update on the current fire season. So far Jackson County
has had 16 fires totaling 12.78 acres.
Dave Spaude informed the Committee that tree planting will start at the end of the week. Forestry staff is working on
wildlife openings and the contract regarding Carbon Credits is with the Attorney.
Parks are working on opening up restrooms and dump stations now that the weather is turning warmer. Jeremy is in
the process of hiring seasonal park employees.
Clean-up work continues on the ATV/UTV trails. Clubs will hold their annual spring clean-ups within the next
month.
The Committee discussed the spring 2023 Timber Sale bid packet. A motion to approve the 12 sales and advertise
was made by Tom Clark, seconded by John Higgins. All members voted in favor.
Jim instructed the committee that potentially 3 or 4 moss sales will be advertised this spring. A motion to approve
advertising was made by Dale Hoff, seconded by John Higgins, all members voted in favor.
The Town Road grant requests were reviewed. After discussion a motion was made by Tom Clark to award the Town
Road Grants as presented. Bear Bluff township received $10,692, Knapp received $3,000, Alma Township was
awarded $3,750. And Brockway will receive $2,558. The motion was seconded by John Higgins, all members voted
in favor.
Jeremy presented the Wazee seal coat bid results. After review a motion was made to award Scott Construction the
project, not to exceed $42,334.00 by John Higgins, the motion was seconded by Dale Hoff, all members voted in
favor.
Dave made a recommendation that firewood cutting permits be increased from $6.00 to $10.00. The permit has not
been increased in 10 years. A motion to approve was made by John Higgins. Dale Hoff, Tom Clark, Ed Chamberlain
and John Higgins voted in favor of the motion. Jerrold Schmidt was opposed, motion carried. The new price for
firewood permits is now $10.00.
Jeremy requested that forest camping permits also be raised to $10.00/night. Currently permits are $5.00. A motion
to approve the increase was made by Dale Hoff, seconded by Tom Clark. All members voted in favor.
A special hunting event will be held at Wazee Lake this fall. The event will be for disabled children and children of
disabled veterans. This will take place over the course of a few days and proper signage will be placed so other
patrons are aware of the event, as it will be within the park boundaries. A motion to approve was made by Tom
Clark, seconded by John Higgins. All members voted in favor.
Jim is working on the upcoming ATV/UTV and Snowmobile trail grants. These grants will be for maintenance and
special projects which include grading and a bridge relocation. A motion to approve the maintenance grant was made

by John Higgins, seconded by Dale Hoff. All members voted in favor. A motion was also made by John Higgins for
the project grants, this motion was seconded by Dale Hoff. All members voted in favor.
A motion to adjourn at 9:50am was made by John Higgins, the motion was seconded by Dale Hoff. All members
voted in favor. The next meeting will be at the Jackson County Courthouse at 8:30am on May 9, 2023.
