The regular monthly meeting for Jackson County Forestry & Parks Department was held at 8:30am on Tuesday,
March 14, 2023 at the Jackson County Courthouse.
Zach Clausing was present from the WI-DNR and gave an update on the upcoming Spring fire season.
Dave Spaude informed the Committee that road bands are currently in place. This has slowed down logging
operations. There is also a new employee going through fire training so they can help with prescribed burns.
Seasonal staff recruitment for the Parks department has started. Parks are schedule to open April 1 but with the
winter storm and snow it is unclear if this will be possible.
Jim submitted a $45,000 storm damage claim for snowmobile clean-up and it was approved. Trails will close for the
winter March 15 and re-open on May 15 weather permitting.
Dave Spaude requested permission to solicit bids for power trenching for the upcoming planting season. A motion to
approve seeking out bid for power trenching with leeway for new spots to power trench was made by John Higgins,
the motion was seconded by Dale Hoff. All members voted in favor.
The Forestry department is looking to hire a summer LTE position for spraying of invasive species and recon. The
position would pay $18.00 and hour. A motion to approve the position was made by Tom Clark, seconded by Dale
Hoff. All members voted in favor.
The Forestry department budgets $20,000 every year for the Town Road Grant. A motion to approve for 2023 was
made by John Higgins, seconded by Dale Hoff. Tom Clark, Ed Chamberlain, Dale Hoff and John Higgins voted in
favor. Jerry Schmidt was opposed to the motion.
A special event permit from 180 Adventure was reviewed. This will be a non-motorized event and will take place at
Wazee beach area on April 1. A motion to approve the event was made by Tom Clark, seconded by Dale Hoff. All
members voted in favor.
Jeremy Breheim reviewed the Mower bids with the Committee. A motion to approve awarding Wood Sales and
Service the low bid for $2,079.00, plus trade-in, was approved by John Higgins, seconded by Dale Hoff. All
members voted in favor.
Quotes for a new UTV for the parks department were discussed. $25,000 was budgeted for a new machine. A motion
to sell the 2013 Kubota for no less than $9,000 as well as a Polaris ATV and purchase the Polaris Ranger from Rod’s
Ride on PowerSports for $33,839.80 was made by Jerry Schmidt. The motion was seconded by Dale Hoff, all
members voted in favor.
A motion to adjourn at 9:50am was made by John Higgins, the motion was seconded by Tom Clark All members
voted in favor. The next meeting will be at the Jackson County Courthouse at 8:30am on April 11, 2023.
