The Wisconsin Association of Home and Community Education state conference met September the 15th – 17th in Green Bay. Seven members from Jackson County attended the conference.
Three members competed at the State level with their Cultural and Textile Arts items in photography, wool applique, crocheting, quilted wall hanging, and quilted table runner. Nine out of ten items brought home a blue ribbon.
This year Jackson County competed for a “Stiches of Love” state award. They won a monetary award for the first time since 2000. Hygiene kits for Guatemala was the focus for this project. Jackson County Home and Community Education worked with United Methodist Church on this project. Fifty hygiene kits were made with a total of 300 reusable sanitary pads included. The kits contained a hand and wash cloth, bar of soap, 3 pairs of panties, 6 reusable sanitary pads, a waterproof bag to put used pads in and a bag to carry all the items.
Susan Grotjahn was elected for a two-year term as State Cultural and Textile Arts Chair. Jackson County has not had a member hold a state office in a long time.
