The La Crosse County District Attorney’s Office has filed a Criminal Complaint charging Sgt. Stan
Edington of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office with one count of Second Degree Reckless Injury for
events taking place on May 11, 2025 in Jackson County. An initial appearance is scheduled for
August 25, 2025 at 9:00 am in Jackson County Circuit Court.
The complaint alleges that Sgt. Edington fired his weapon at a car striking a 17 year old male who
survived, but has been paralyzed since the incident. Further details can be found in the criminal
complaint.
The incident was investigated by the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal
Investigation (DCI) and turned over to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office. Due to the close
working relationship between Sgt. Edington and the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office, the
Jackson County District Attorney asked that a special prosecutor be appointed, and the La Crosse
County District Attorney’s Office assumed the responsibility to review the reports, make a charging
decision, and handle any further proceedings.
The Criminal Complaint is merely an accusation and Sgt. Edington is presumed innocent until proven
guilty.
