James Fredrick Campbell, 79, of Black River Falls, passed away September 9, 2023.
James was born August 4, 1944 to Helen and Merville Campbell in Lacrosse, WI. His family
was the most important thing in his life. For most of his career, he worked at Block Printing.
Later, in retirement, he worked at McDonald’s, because he just couldn’t stand to be idle and not
be around people.
James loved telling jokes. His hobbies included fishing, reading westerns, going for car rides,
watching boxing, football, and The Andy Griffith Show, and playing slots at the casino. He loved
Willie Nelson, and caught a lot of slack for it from his wife and kids! He was the kindest man
ever.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister Cozette Campbell; three brothers, Donald,
Dennis, and Gerald Campbell; his wife of 39 years Vicky (Smikrud) Campbell; and two sons,
Terry and Timothy Campbell.
He is survived by two sisters, Judith Frier and Nancy Stevenson, and numerous nieces and
nephews. He is also survived by five kids: Renae (Virgil) Kasys of Cottage Grove, WI; Janell
(Steve) Amborn of Oconomowoc, WI; Jeremy Campbell of Black River Falls, WI; Robyn (Murt)
Greengrass of Black River Falls, WI; and Rebecca Campbell of Black River Falls, WI. Last, but
not least, the ones he was REALLY fond of, his fourteen grandkids: Matthew, Stuart III, Kiara,
Isiah, Aliyah, Kiley, Martynas, Sierra, Sienna, Andrés, Newlyn, Mia, Sofia, and Jesse, plus two
great-grandkids Victoria and Nayvie, and one on the way!
A celebration of life will be held at a later time.
The Buswell Funeral Home of Black River Falls is assisting with arrangements, 715-284-2231.
